Move over, marathons. Triathlon, your time is up. Obstacle Course Races are where the fun is at. Find out why an OCR should be your next fitness challenge. To read more go to: Rock solid Race
1) FITNESS MEETS FUN
Muddy giggles aren’t just for your kid nephew! Seriously, what can be more fun than tackling the challenges you’ll face in an obstacle course race? You could get soaking wet, or covered from head to toe in mud (but you won’t care!) You might clamber up hay bales or walls, slide down obstacles, wade through lakes or squelch your way through mud. Grab a slice of the fun stuff for yourself! It’s a whole lot better than pounding the pavements.
2) UNIQUE EXPERIENCES
Don’t be a boring grown-up! When was the last time you and your crew did something crazy, cool and totally different? Don’t get stuck in a rut. Signing up to an obstacle course race is an amazing way to have a new experience in a great setting. Yep, it might be a little bit scary, but we promise it won’t be once you get started. And scary is better than boring any day. OCRs keep life exciting!
3) MAKE IT SOCIAL
Most people enter OCRs with friends. So grab a group of mates (you know, the “sporty one”, the “try-anything-once” one and that one who is always doing random stuff at weekends). Not only can you get fit together as you train for the event, but you’ll have an amazing day out and create lasting memories. Trust us, there’s nothing which will bring your crew together than doing an obstacle race!
4) BRAND-NEW FITNESS CHALLENGE
When was the last time you gave your workout routine a serious shake up? Obstacle course races really challenge your body, even if you’re already strong, fit and fast. No two events are the same. The terrain, incline, obstacles, climbs, descents and crawls will demand strength and stamina from every single muscle in your body.
5) SERIOUS CALORIE-BURNER
Want to blast away a massive amount of calories? Take running to the next level with an obstacle course race. Because you’re not just running on standard terrain and at a steady pace, your body will use a lot more energy. In fact, it’s less like standard endurance cardio and more like interval training, circuits, strength training and body-weight training all rolled into one. (Added bonus: we’re pretty sure cake eaten after an OCR doesn’t count at all).
6) IT’S NOT ALL ABOUT FINISH TIME
Most running races are about PBs, finish times and places. Obstacle course races are a little different. They can be competitive, of course. But for most people, the sense of fun, community and team spirit is more important. So if you’re looking for a fitness challenge which is about more than the time on your stop-watch, join the OCR family.
7) ACHIEVE THE INCREDIBLE
Every single person who crosses the finish line of our obstacle course races is a total hero. These things are not easy. The sense of achievement you’ll feel when you finish can’t be described (you have to experience it for yourself). Challenge yourself, achieve more than you thought possible, and enjoy the sense of strength and pride that comes with it. You’ve earned it.
8) BRAGGING RIGHTS
Let’s be honest, plenty of people do obstacle course races for the story-telling value. “What did you do at the weekend?” “Oh, you know, mowed the lawn and fixed the Mrs car. How about you mate?” “Me? I ran 10km across country, waded through a lake, went down a hydroslide, hurdled hay bales and crawled through mud. Pretty standard.”
9) YOU’LL BE HOOKED
The final reason to enter your first obstacle course race? You’re going to love it…
