Michael Oher had a roster of supporters watching him as he and the Ravens won the Super Bowl Sunday night, as both his on-screen mom actress Sandra Bullock was in the stands along with the Tuohy family, who adopted him in high school and helped lead him to both academic and athletic success.
‘I came so far from nothing to a Super Bowl champion. I’m in shock right now!’ he told Good Morning America’s Josh Elliott.
Oher bounced between foster homes in Memphis before Sean and Leigh Ann Tuohy took him into their home and eventually became his legal parents, but that did not cut off his connection to his troubled roots in the poorer parts of the Tennessee city.
‘North Memphis/Hurt Village/Dixie Homes to a Super Bowl champion dreams do come true!!!!!!’ he tweeted moments after the win Sunday night.
Bullock, who won an Academy Award for her role in the film, has stayed close with the Tuohys after the movie came out in 2009, and both Bullock and the Tuohy’s have homes in New Orleans, adding to the importance of this weekend’s game.
‘She’s a great advocate of doing the right thing. She’s a big giver,’ Leigh Anne Tuohy said.
