Why Did We Go Carolling?

Christmas is a wonderful time of year, but for many it can also be a very difficult lonely period. In the world today $2.5 trillion is spent on antidepressants. This record attempt is to help raise awareness of these issues, bring together the local community, have fun and ultimately make people happy with a lasting legacy – if we can break the record which is why we are writing to you.

A little bit About Us

We recently launched ‘The Wondr Project’ where we  want to create moments of extraordinary experience – peak experience. Profound moments where people feel more alive and fulfilled. And this ambition increasingly colours and influences all our work.

My name is Julian Hay and set up a business called iMedia where we create live events we hope make a difference to people’s lives. We recently set up an online magazine Wondrlust.com – where we try to better understand how to live a happy, fulfilled life.

We wanted to create something memorable for the local community that combines a live event and living a happy life. So three neighbours – myself, Graham Saltmarsh & Matt Read – thought “Carolling World Record” in the hope that whatever the outcome, this will be great fun, helps to spread a positive message, and raising awareness and some money for 2 very good causes.

Not For Profit

This event was not for profit. Its aim – to raise awareness and money for two causes close to our hearts – as we see it two sides of the same coin, This is the essence of the record attempt.

There Were Many People I Would Publicly Like To Thank

“There were many people I would personally like to thank, most of which gave their time for free. First, almost 2000 people who attended the event. The iMedia Team – Paul Molloy, Victoria Hay, Natalie Tate, Jonty Perry – for giving up so much time/effort to put the event on – including helping flyer 20,000 leaflets, registration, stewarding, reindeer & light buying! Friend/neighbour Graham Saltmarsh who made so much possible (including making the 40 xmas wands – so visible in the film – contacting 40+ Stewards from family & friends). Toni Robinson (Choir Director) & Singology who led the singing throughout. Our Actor / MC for the day Matthew Lloyd-Davies for keeping the event flow so well (and funny!). Emeka Onono (Award Winning Producer/Director) leading a 5 strong film crew – Andrew Ridge, Robert Betrand, Richard Boon, Alesandro Farrantini, Lee Dorney – who created this wonderful film. Professional Photographer Oliver Wilson with a 4hr journey time to get there. Matt Reed (neighbour/helper). Jem Kale (LBHF) who agreed to the event so quickly. Our 2 independent Witnesses; Amanda Sieff & Philippe Fabre. Emma Jane Hay for contacting choirs, bands, event companies, flyering (the list went on).  John Wilkie (Pines & Needles) for our 14ft Xmas tree. Anna/Brian Haughton & Dr Nelda Frater for making so many connections. The 10 houses – Rosie, Eva-Lotta, Oz, Robert/Annabel, Jason/Andrea, Andrea, Natalia, Wieke, Angela. Timings Overview

As we are nearly there, here is a reminder of the key timings for Sunday!

1500 – REGISTRATION STARTS (please be there sharp)

1500-20 – SINGOLOGY CHOIR XMAS SET (while registration happens)

1520-30 – GROUP WARM UP / RULES

1530-40 – MOVE 2K CAROLLERS INTO POSITION FOR WORLD RECORD

1540-1630 – WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT; 10 DOORS, 10 CAROLS, 3 STREETS

1630-40 – BACK TO MAIN STAGE

1640-45 – ONE FINAL SONG

1645 – DEPART

NB: TIMINGS ARE SUBJECT TO 2K PEOPLE REGISTERING ON TIME

Where It Happened?

We met at Eel Brook Common, Fulham. The Official Record attempt is ‘Carolling’ which means Door to Door. The requirement is to sing at 10 doors in a minimum of 2 roads. A different carol needs to be sung at each door. From gathering in Eel Brook Common we will Carol Sing Door to Door in the streets nearby so it is safe and has minimal impact. - Click here for a location map

When?

The attempt was on Sunday 13th December 2015 early afternoon. We will meet at 1500, registration will take 30minutes, and carolling record attempt will last approximately 1 hour. We would like as many families to attend hence finishing before 1700.

The Current Record

The Current Record is 1820 – so our aim is a minimum 2000 people
